qualifications
2014 – 2018: phd molecular toxicology and cancer research
conway institute, school of biomedical and biomolecular sciences, ucd
the research programme of phd involved the investigation into the use of novel alternative therapies in the treatment of human cancers
practical skills gained during my phd programme
• designing and completion of laboratory experiments
• xenotransplantation of zebrafish larvae with cancerous cells at their yolk sac using a microscope-assisted microinjector, with the associated techniques and maneuvers including fish maintenance, mating, dechlorination, general anesthesia induction, gels and microneedles making, and imaging. also, toxicity screening was performed using 24hour-old zebrafish larvae.
• designing and performing mirna experiments including mirna array,qrt-pcr validation, cell transfection with mirna inhibitors and using the bioinformatics tools to find the potential downstream targets of mirna, then validate them by measuring protein expression.
• extraction and purification of rna and mirna using different techniques, checking the integrity, and performing the analysis. therefore, i have a working knowledge of qrt-pcr, bio-analyzer, thermocycler, and nanodroping
• other functional techniques eg. : elisa, cell culture, western blot, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, phase contrast microscopy, and cell sonication.
• computer skills including statistical data analysis and image processing using sophisticated software programmes
• presentation and communications skills including presentations at international and national conferences and generation of papers
• supervision of undergraduate and master student laboratory projects

2008 – 2010: msc pharmacology and toxicology
school of medicine
university of babylon/ iraq

my research msc programme in pharmacology and toxicology involved the following studies:
in vitro study: involved the handling of two clinically important pathogenic bacteria which were p. aeruginosa and mrsa. this included seeding, subculturing and performing antibiotic- sensitivity tests.
in vivo study: included the handling of lab animals with all relevant techniques and skills necessary for measuring the immunological indices after treating the animals with proposed treatment.
2000 – 2005: bsc pharmacy
school of pharmacy
university of kufa/ iraq
practical skills gained during my degree
• dose calculations, preparation of different forms of medications such as tablets, capsules, suspension etc and understanding the ways of pharmaceutical preparations.
• understanding the chemical structures of drugs with a special focus on structural activity relationship (sar) of drug groups.
• understanding the proper use of drugs with potential mechanisms, side effects, contraindications and drug interactions.
• understanding the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the drugs with the advance measurements of drug bioavailability and bio-equivalency.
• pharmacognosy and botanical drug classifications with applying proper methods of drug analysis for each group
• understanding the basics of the related sciences such as histology, microbiology, parasitology, physiology and pathology, as well as, biostatistics and methodology.

academic history
2018-present the school of pharmacy, university of babylon, iraq
lecturer in pharmacology and toxicology department with a specialty in molecular toxicology and
cancer research
2011-2013 the school of pharmacy, university of babylon, iraq
teaching of different pharmacy- related topics including physical pharmacy, inorganic pharmaceutical chemistry, general toxicology, and clinical toxicology.
engaging in office- related duties such as the director of pharmacology and toxicology department.
2010-2011 the school of pharmacy, university of kufa, iraq
teaching of general toxicology, and clinical toxicology for 4th and 5th-year pharmacy students.
general and clinical toxicology demonstration.
2006-2008 the school of pharmacy, university of kufa/ iraq
pharmacology, clinical pharmacy, and therapeutic demonstration.

pharmacist employment history
2006 babylon hospital for maternity and children
hospital pharmacy rotation
dispensing different medications after having tours and discussion with the consultants before drug administration.
gained knowledge about commonly used drugs, including clozapine, warfarin, heparin, vancomycin, and metronidazole infusion and with potentially serious side effects and drug-drug interactions.
gained an insight into the role of the hospital pharmacist and the many and varied questions from ward staff that we had to answer.
learnt the importance of confidentiality and good interpersonal skills, especially when dealing with patients or relatives who are upset or confused.
learnt that it is essential to be well organized in the pharmacy and in the ward. of note, organizing the drug mixture and drug emergency cabinets.

2006 -2013 private pharmacies
- gained an understanding of the laws and regulations of pharmacies when dispensing medications such as prescribing otc only and updating the national records of psychiatric drugs.
- patient education is one of the most important duties to ensure that they take the medication(s) properly and make them aware of the food-drug interactions that negatively affect the outcomes. also, giving people advice in terms of proper use of different medications with describing the potential risks that arise from improper use of the drugs.
- teaching and training of the pharmacy students, pharmacy staff, and new pharmacists about how to deal with patients under stressful conditions.
- educating health provider colleagues, doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers about new medications and drug therapy protocols.
- monitoring drug interactions involved checking with patients to find out what other medications they are taking to ensure that there are no drug-drug interactions. the patients were asked to contact us when any undesirable effects would appear.

current research
an investigation into the sensitization of cancerous cells to death ligands, such as trail using mirna mimics and antagomirs. currently, i am using phytochemicals, such as curcumin to halt carcinogenesis in a chemically induced kidney cancer model, as well as, to induce chemosensitization of cancerous cells to trail. also, i am investigating the underlining molecular mechanisms including dna mutation and mirna dysregulation, using both quantitative and qualitative techniques, and several skills including those of problem-solving and project management.
